THE PROCESS
At Add Libb, the art part is essential. All handbags are handcrafted by fiber artist Libby Mitchell, striving to find creative ways to elevate her distinctive raw materials by honoring their essence and working with them as if they were paints atop a canvas.
Handcrafted in South Carolina, these handbags blend timeless design with modern fabrics and thoughtful craftsmanship. Each creation reflects a commitment to uniqueness and durability, in contrast to the fleeting trends of fast fashion.
Libby believes in small-batch creativity, so she is continually reaching for new materials and fresh sources of inspiration, ensuring every new collection is as distinctive as the hands that made it.
Add Libb handbags are meant for those who understand that true luxury lies in artistry, purpose and the stories carried within every stitch.
The strongest inspiration is always the materials themselves. The designs come from what often feels like a conversation between Libby's unique aesthetic and the fabrics and leathers employed in her wearable-art creations.
Sourcing high-quality leather, from bridle sides to smaller unique lambskin hides. Most of the leathers are made from US hides, tanned in Mexico, and the decorative detailing leathers typically come from Italy and Spain.
Libby reaches for upholstery grade fabrics for their durability and tight weave, but from time to time we fall in love with a thinner fabric and back it with interfacing. The fabrics primarily come from South Carolina sources.
There are many steps along the path that leads to a finished piece. From sketching and resketching a design idea, to selecting complimentary materials, the most crucial stages often occur before Libby cuts a single thing.
